With the Toronto International Film Festival just around the corner (the festival officially starts September 9th) articles about the festival and the films to be featured have started appearing; among them, an article by Hitfix proclaiming Andrew’s next film, alongside Carey Mulligan and Keira Knightley, “Never Let Me Go” a “must see film” during the festival period.
Who: Directed by Mark Romanek, starring Kiera Knightley, Carey Mulligan, Andrew Garfield, and Sally Hawkins, based on the acclaimed novel by Kazuo Ishiguro.
What: As children, Ruth, Kathy and Tommy, spend their childhood at a seemingly idyllic English boarding school. As they grow into young adults, they find that they have to come to terms with the strength of the love they feel for each other, while preparing themselves for the haunting reality that awaits them.
Why: Ishiguro, the same novelist who wrote “Remains Of The Day,” is a brilliant writer with a very particular sensibility, and Mark Romanek’s “One Hour Photo” suggests that he might be the right guy for the job. Andrew Garfield is having a very good year between this, the “Red Riding” trilogy, and his being hired to play “Spider-Man,” and he gets to work with an amazing cast here. Mulligan took this job fresh off her Oscar-nominated turn in “An Education” last year, and the film’s “secret” should give them all some emotionally devastating ground to cover. Read more …
