As preparations for filming of “Spider-Man 2.0″ begin Hollywood has been buzzing with the latest gossip: who will play alongside newly minted Peter Parker, Andrew Garfield, in the role of his on-screen love interest? Although we don’t know how many actresses have auditioned for the role, the short list includes: Lily Collins (from “90210″, “The Blind Side”), Ophelia Lovibond (“4.3.2.1.”, “Chatroom”, “Nowhere Boy”), Teresa Palmer (“The Sorcerer’s Apprentice”, “The December Boys”), Imogen Poots (“Centurion”, “Cracks”) and Emma Roberts (“4.3.2.1″, “Nancy Drew”, “Valentine’s Day”).
Perhaps most intriguing is the note that the female lead of “Spider-Man” will not be Mary Jane Watson. Early speculation has the role pegged as possibly Gwen Stacy, Betty Brant, Felicia Hardy (The Black Cat) or potentially even a new character altogether.
Although, even if the female lead isn’t Mary Jane, that may not rule out an appearance from Spidey’s favorite redhead during the movie at some point. Read more …
